Au Naturel: Organic Stones in Accessories and the Home

Organic, natural-looking stone is more popular than ever this season. Raw quartz, agate, turquoise, and diamond have all made appearances on this fall's latest jewelry, as well as in the finest homes. Natural stones evoke a sense of serenity, and provide an interesting contrast to an otherwise traditional look.

In the Todd Reed bangle shown below, raw, un-cut diamonds complement each other on a neutral grey backdrop. In their natural, un-polished state, the diamonds have a more rugged appearance. This look is casual but still incredibly stylish and fashion-forward.

Another Todd Reed bangle, shown below, has rough-cut diamonds rather than raw diamonds. The result is a slightly more polished and glamorous look, but still different from traditional diamond jewelry.

The natural stone trend is also proving popular in fine home design. In the LeaMar showroom below, large slabs of different types of marble, custom stone, and natural stone are being showcased. Like in jewelry, natural stones in home design retain their earthy, neutral palette, bringing the outside world in.

By combining the granite Stone Inc countertop below with wood, another natural element, a warm and sophisticated look is achieved. The rich, brown tones of the wood bring out the darker tones in the multicolored granite piece. This is a great way to bring many colors into a room without overwhelming the space.

A similar combination is seen here, with this Cumar fireplace. The hints of dark brown in the granite pieces are emphasized and complemented by the rich dark wood panels on either side. The result is a naturally cohesive look.

In this Stoneworks countertop shown below, we again see how a piece of natural stone or granite can bring multiple colors into a room. The combination of grey, white, brown and blue provide ample decorating options for the rest of the room. The multicolored countertop blends seamlessly with both the white wooden cabinets and the stainless steel kitchen appliances.

In the Louis W. Mian, Inc kitchen countertop shown below, the granite brings an unexpected combination of colors- copper, grey, white, and green. These earth tones ground the rest of the room with their rich tones, balancing the light walls and high ceilings.

Natural stones in the home do not always need to be dark and richly pigmented. White marble or granite creates a glamorous and timeless look, as seen below in the Cumar bathroom. Though the stone's main shades are ivory and white, it is balanced by hints of grey and brown throughout.

In jewelry too, we see the interesting combination of colors that natural stones can bring. In the Bourbon & Boweties bangles shown below, we see dark and light hues combining beautifully.

Worn separately or stacked, these bangles bring a world of color to your wrist, and again provide endless styling opportunities for the rest of an outfit.

Standalone semiprecious stones like the ones seen in the Bourbon & Boweties bangles are also a great way to accessorize and complement a home. Below, the stone accessories by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams bring an earthy touch to any room.
