“Refuge and prospect” are two things that Partner of Kochman Reidt + Haigh Cabinetmakers Paul Reidt says influences his design work.
Paul Reidt is among the exceptional design team that creates high-end custom cabinets, fine furniture and woodwork at Kochman Reidt + Haigh Cabinetmakers.
Paul Reidt says “refuge and prospect” can be applied to many design circumstances.
Refuge can be experienced in a contained interior space with dark tones, as our ancestors found safety when withdrawn into the forest. Prospect may be felt in a light-filled room with a view, just as hunters and gathers experienced a meadow or wide-open environment.
“Refuge and prospect” inspired this project photograph from Kochman Reidt + Haigh Cabinetmakers.
The circular window can be defined as an oculus and the window’s curve is reminiscent of the dome of the sky. The nook’s dark wood desktop is an anchor or refuge as we might experience the forest ground beneath us. The desk’s chair welcomes you to be contentedly harbored while enjoying a long, lovely view into the gardens.
