Celebrate the beauty of Nantucket’s horticulture this July during the island’s tenth annual Nantucket Garden Festival, July 17-19. Gather with other phytophiles for a weekend of workshops, walking tours and family-oriented events, like the Mommy and Me Garden Tea Party.
Day one of the 10th anniversary festival begins with the Victory Garden Talk and Tour with Russell Morash, legendary creator of the PBS television series "The Victory Garden" and "This Old House." After an engaging and informative talk at the Morash home in the Shawkemo neighborhood, wander down the cobblestone streets of town for some fabulous window shopping or a lazy afternoon at Jetties Beach.
For those eager to showcase—or discover!—their creative side, Megan Soverino will host a two-hour floral arrangement workshop beginning at 10:00am on July 17 at the Nantucket Lighthouse School. Participants will learn the fundamentals of floral design as well as priceless tips on how to prolong the life of arrangements. Beautiful, fresh-cut flowers will be provided for each participant, in addition to all of the supplies needed to create a stunning take-home centerpiece.
For younger creatives, the Fairy Gardens and Floral Crowns workshop July 18 welcomes children four years and older to embrace the magical world of gardening in a whimsical fashion. Watch as your little ones beam with excitement as they craft charming fairy houses and floral crowns from natural materials. Weaving fences from vines and walkways from beach stones, then carefully choosing the perfect color combination for their floral crown, your favorite artist-in-the-making will treasure their keepsakes as a memory of your lovely morning on Nantucket.
As the evening settles in, join Keynote Presenter Thomas Rainer, Gordon Hayward of Hayward Gardens, Jennie Love of Love 'n Fresh Flowers and Russell Morash of The Victory Garden for a fabulous night at the Garden Soirée. Sip garden-inspired cocktails and sommelier-selected wines while perusing a curated collection of gifts and jewelry in the boho-chic artisan marketplace. After a delicious spread from The Green and Yoho, admire the pop-up art show featuring local artists to complete this unforgettable Nantucket summer night.
