The homeowners wanted to create an outdoor living space with variety of functions for relaxation, entertaining, and family fun. A sweeping architectural staircase leads from the deck to lower patio and fire pit area for evening marshmallow roasts, and the firepit capstone pictured below is a single stone cut into a donut shaped ring.

The original home had a monotonous single level deck that lacked shade. It was difficult to comfortably sit on it and enjoy the spectacular views, thus the family didn't use it much. Howell Custom Building Group designed and built the new outdoor space. The deck was replaced with multi-level outdoor spaces, including a new expanded deck organically shaped to reflect various functional areas including an 8 person jacuzzi under a Cedar pergola. The jacuzzi features built-in seating and storage.

A three season porch was added off the living room, with a roof deck above that is accessed from the second floor master suite. The three season room provides a shady respite for dining, while the roof deck offers serene adult space for reading, sunbathing or sunset viewing. The space features built-in cabinetry and a Douglas Fir ceiling finished with a marine varnish for a nautical look.

Notable features of the porch include a deck constructed with sustainably-harvested Brazilian Ipe that requires little maintenance, a full kitchen with an induction grill, all-weather cabinets, and electric blue Azul Bahia Brazilian granite countertops to reflect the color of the sea.

The patio is constructed from new and salvaged granite and bluestone. The new outdoor living space has changed the way the family uses their home, providing greater opportunities for enjoying the incredible vista, entertaining friends and family, and relaxing day or night.
