One of Boston's premier architects, Peter Sachs, recently completed a spectacular home renovation on Wykeham Road in Newton, MA. Sachs specializes in historic home restoration and the goal for his recent project was to "De-Tudor" a 1920s Tudor style home. Instead of tearing down the home and starting brand new, a common trend in the Newton area, Sachs was able to blend seamlessly a new, modern addition onto the back of the historic Tudor home. "A lot of people do not have the vision for an old building to be renovated," Sachs explains, "I strive to preserve historic properties as part of antiquity and I like to explore the juxtaposition between the old and the new." Not only does Sachs enhance home exteriors, he also completely updates and modernizes the interiors of historic homes, incorporating state-of-the-art conveniences and comforts in the framework of an older property. According to Sachs, "The client desired an industrial, loft-type space with metal windows and handrails, large-scale panes, top-notch light fixtures, staineless steel appliances as well as other modern features." His impressive design and craftsmanship skills allowed his clients to enjoy a sleek, industrial addition without sacrificing the home's original charm.
