A prison known for housing some of the worst criminals in the Netherlands' has transformed into a luxury hotel. Het Arresthuis opened as a prison in 1862 and closed in 2007 when hotel construction began.

The luxury hotel now has 40 spacious rooms for guests to stay at, which was previously 105 prisoner's quarters. All of the rooms have modern furnishings, air conditioning, flat screen televisions, and free wifi. The hotel also has a sauna, fitness center, and an organic garden.

Het Arresthuis is not the first prison to transform into a luxury hotel. The Liberty Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts used to house some of Boston's most notorious criminals. The prison previously known as the Charles Street Jail was built in 1851 and closed in 1973 after it was declared an unfit place to live due to poor living conditions.
