Preparing for The Wayside Inn Antiques Show

On Wednesday, the Boston Design Guide team stopped by The Wayside Inn in Sudbury in preparation for the Antiques Show this weekend.

We got more than we expected when the Sudbury Companies of Militia & Minute celebrated their 50th birthday there.  The Sudbury Militia is a non-profit, education group of colonial reenactors.

The Wayside Inn is full of rich American history. The Preview Party and Gala Reception on Friday, May 10th will benefit The Wayside Inn. The Wayside Inn sustains on private funding.

For those not so familiar on The Wayside Inn, here are some interesting facts on its history:

• It is the oldest operating Inn in the country

• Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote Tales from the Wayside Inn, a widely known series of poems, while he stayed there. The Innkeeper inspired “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.”

• It is where George Washington passed through; it is where our soldiers had their last drink before marching to Lexington and then on to Boston.
