Northshore Magazine Features Wilson Kelsey Design

Wilson Kelsey Design were recently featured in Northshore Magazine for their renovation of an 1804 period home in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

Current owners Susan and Jeffrey Parker first toured the Federal-period home when it was mid-renovation, left by the previous owner when his funds ran out. Though there was snow on the floor and debris scattered throughout the home, the Parkers fell in love on the spot and took the property that very day.

The home, known as the Forster Leach house, was built in 1804 for Manchester merchant Israel Forster. Legend has it that the home was designed by Samuel McIntire, one of the first architects in the US, who was known for his work for wealthy New Englanders.

While some of the work in the home may have been done by McIntire's employees or friends, it has been confirmed that the home's elaborate mantel (below) was indeed crafted by McIntire's hand.

The couple's connection to Manchester and to the home goes deeper, however, than mere fancy. Susan Parker's family has been living in Manchester for 13 generations, and Jeffrey Parker recently discovered that he is actually related to the late Samuel McIntire.

Wilson Kelsey Design were chosen as the interior designers to oversee the challenging project of renovating the home's disorganized and messy interior. In addition to figuring out where the original moldings belonged and crafting a modern staircase, Sally and John Kelsey also did extensive research to give the home a feel of historical accuracy.

The result was a beautiful restoration that maintained the history and charm of the old home, while also making it suitable for the owners' modern lifestyle.
