The Most Expensive House in the Country

Last week, the most expensive piece of real estate in the country was priced at $139 million. The in-progress castle-like mansion is located in Hillsboro Beach, Florida, and has been dubbed "Le Palais Royal." An appropriate nickname -- the mansion was inspired by the Palace of Versailles and other iconic European castles with its bright white pillars and large, winding staircases.

The home is a palatial 60,500 square feet and has 11 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, 3 master suites, a Presidential Suite, a $2 million marble staircase, an IMAX home theater, and a 4,500 square foot infinity pool with a glass-bottomed jacuzzi floating above it. The mansion is surrounded by a gate painted with 22-karat gold leaf. To supplement the security provided by the artful gate, an elaborate system will be installed complete with guard dogs who will live in kennels on the lower floor.

The Palais sits atop a rolling 4.4 acres of land, and will have a total of 464 ft. of waterfront on the Atlantic Ocean. It is still in the process of being built, and is scheduled to be finished in 2015. The broker of the property, William P.D. Pierce of Coldwell Banker, says he's already had some serious buyer interest in the property from overseas.
