What to Do and Where to Go this Holiday Season in New England

New England is a beautiful region to explore during the holidays. With tons of festive activities like tree lightings, house tours, and seasonal shows, you'll have plenty of opportunities to get into the holiday spirit.

Shows

New England has tons of shows on schedule this season. A Christmas classic is of course The Nutcracker, which never gets old in our book. The traditional show is being put on once again by the Boston Ballet thru December 31st at the Boston Opera House

The Boston Pops will be performing their Holiday Pops at Symphony Hall thru December 31st. New this year is an additional show - modern classic Home Alone will be performed three times throughout the holiday season as well.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical is on at the Citi Shubert Theatre in Boston thru December 14th. A perfect show for young children or nostalgic adults!

Irving Berlin's White Christmas: The Musical is on at the beautiful Wang Theatre from December 16-28th. An old holiday classic brought to life is sure to make your holiday season extra special. 

A Christmas Celtic Sojourn, world class-Celtic music hosted by Brian O'Donovan, will be on at the charming Hanover Theatre in Worcester, MA on December 17th. An unconventional and unexpected way to celebrate the holiday season. 

Lights

The Seaport Hotel has teamed up with Christmas in the City for their third annual toy drive and tree auction on December 3rd from 6-8 PM. The night includes Christmas trees lit and decorated by Milan Lucic of the Boston Bruins and a "Boston Strong" tree in memory of Mayor Menino.

The Boston Common Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on December 4th, from 4-8 PM.The Mayor and Santa will be in attendance, and last year's lighting featured live performances by Blue Man Group and Boston Ballet. Don't miss!

The Commonwealth Avenue Mall of Lights is a gorgeous display of sparkling white lights that will be on all throughout the season. It's a quieter way to enjoy holiday lights without the crowds that attend official lightings.

The Copley Square Tree has been lit, and, as usual, will be on all throughout the holidays too. Another beautiful place to enjoy lights and holiday spirit. 

The MFA will be hosting a Hannukkah Festival of Lights on December 17th from 6-9:45. The night features a menorah lighting, olive oil tasting, and craft-making. Guests will also be able to experience the 8 Nights, 8 Windows art installation by local digital artists Jeff Hesser, Mike Mandel, and musician Guy Mendilow.

Shopping

At the Hynes Convention Center from December 5-7, vendors will be displaying their unique crafted goods as part of CraftBoston Holiday. A perfect way to ensure that your gifts are like nobody else's!

The Old South Church Craft Fair takes place on December 6 from 9:30-3:30. There will be live music, snacks, and vendors of photography, jewelry, and other crafts. 

From December 7-13, check out the MassArt Made Holiday at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in the lobby of the Tower Building. Talented MassArt students and alumni will be offering hand-made jewelry, ceramics, hand-blown glass, photography and more. All proceeds go towards the artists and scholarships. 

Finally, the annual Beacon Hill Holiday Stroll takes place on December 11 from 6-9 PM. Shop along one of Boston's most charming streets while perusing the boutiques and galleries and listening to festive bells and music.
