Bold, earthy Marsala is this year's Color of the Year. It is a rich shade, perfect for the fall and winter months that lie ahead.

Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman describes the hue as "Subtly seductive, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth." It is an interesting shade - not quite red and not quite brown, it is something wonderfully in-between. This ambiguity makes the color go well with other ambiguous, in-between shades like copper, mauve, or even ivory.

The tone's name is taken of course from Marsala wine, a wine with a hearty, full-bodied, and natural flavor.

Eiseman recommends using Marsala in the kitchen or dining room for added warmth and complexity. Below, Marsala provides a gorgeous backdrop for the kitchen stove.

The Marsala color truly comes to life when combined with different textures, such as in a rug or accent pillow.

Marsala is such a versatile hue that it can easily be adapted for the runway or for casual everyday wear.
