5 Hot Fall Fashions in the Home

This year’s basic black, deep brown is a little bit softer, a little bit richer and to us, just says, autumn. It strikes just the right chord this time of year and works beautifully whether paired with toasty shades like oatmeal and mustard, demure hues like pale mauve or alongside natty naturals like ivory, tan and toffee.
For the award-winning living room of a Commonwealth Avenue renovation, Wilson Kelsey Design created a haven in a palette of soft neutrals and warm browns that is both soothing and striking. To arrive at the tone-on-tone composition, principal Sally Wilson layered a spectrum of shades, running from the fresh cream of the millwork to the antiqued gilded gold of the chandeliers overhead to the deep chestnut of the leather ottoman, accent tables and luxurious throw. A few well-placed splashes of color add further dimension and impact to the mix.
Wilson is a master at knowing the effect each detail will have on the whole, and at creating elegant but thoroughly livable settings. “Sometimes I just shake my head in wonder,” says co-owner John Kelsey, “Sally knows how to blend all of those tones and textures together and how to play them off of one another.”
