Kimberly Mercurio Landscape Architecture has mastered the art and science of creating gorgeous, sustainable gardens that are easy to maintain, work well with existing regional conditions, and, most importantly, have a positive impact on the environment.
When a client requested to fill in an empty lot next to their Chatham home with a colorful garden that would bloom throughout the summer months of June through September, several obstacles presented themselves, including varying light and soil conditions. Rather than uprooting what was already there, Kimberly Mercurio Landscape Architecture decided to work with the existing ecological conditions to create a sustainable garden for the family.
The landscape architecture firm transformed the empty lot into a flourishing field of daylilies. Perhaps the easiest perennial to grow, daylilies require little care and are very tenable, making them the perfect flower for a client’s summer home garden. The blooms are known to be drought and salt tolerant, relatively pest-free, adaptable to varying light conditions, have erosion control, and are beneficial to pollinators – which means that beautiful butterflies bless the garden all summer long!Kimberly Mercurio Landscape Architecture was able to keep the field in constant bloom throughout the summer by coordinating and composing a variety of yellow, orange and red daylilies. Mercurio took every aspect of the flowers into careful consideration, including the color, form and time of bloom. The end result: a breathtakingly beautiful abundance of color that welcomes the family home every June and sends them on their way each September.
