A home’s entryway is a prime opportunity to make an impression. The entryway is more than just a functional space—it sets the tone for the home’s overall style and atmosphere. Whether it be a classic arrival sequence restored with period-correct details, or a contemporary foyer that captures the view, these impeccably-designed entryways serve as a warm welcome to guests and residents alike.
1. Edmunds Road: Catalano Architects
This formal entry defies expectations with custom millwork, contemporary architectural elements, and intricate details. Playing to the young family’s ‘joie de vie,’ the entryway is accentuated with bold furnishings and vibrant colors that create a lively first impression.

2. Copper Beech Cottage: Carpenter & MacNeille
Built with old-world craftsmanship, this seaside stick-style cottage is a historic renovation that features a warm and welcoming entrance. On the exterior, saw-tooth vertical siding and decorative rafter ends provide the perfect detailing. A charming, rustic bluestone pathway leads to a copper-toned foyer adorned with antique inspired light fixtures and a traditional rug.

3. Wachusett: Catalano Architects
Driven by a vision for openness and connectivity, this spacious double height entry foyer elevates this home to new heights with a striking elliptical stair. The foyer seamlessly transitions into the formal entertaining area on the main floor, while the staircase leads to the primary suite, children’s bedrooms, and a guest suite on the upper levels.

4. Gentleman's Farm: Carpenter & MacNeille
On the entrance of a reproduction Colonial Farmhouse, a goshen stone walkway, reclaimed granite steps, fieldstone retaining walls, and Ipe decking meld with period trim and warm wooden beams to reinforce the home’s character and implied history. The new portico includes a copper roof designed both to withstand periods of freeze and thaw and increase curb appeal. Visitors are welcomed into a vibrant foyer, where colorful Landry & Arcari rugs, Phillip Jeffries wallpaper, and lush plantings create a cozy place to land.

5. Monomoy: Catalano Architects
This inviting foyer offers a sweet transition indoors from the lush entry courtyard. Capturing the views of colorful native plantings beyond, a transom door leads to sophisticated, contemporary interiors that are nestled within a traditional shingle-style exterior with flat-board trim, square posts, and double-hung windows.

6. Oakledge: Carpenter & MacNeille
Though newly constructed, this custom shingle-style home features a timeless entry. Its Red Cedar shingled portico is adorned with charming waves of shingles and supported by double columns on locally-sourced stone bases. Stepping inside, vibrant walnut floors anchor a grand staircase with a custom mahogany railing and stair runner. Nestled in the bay above the portico hails a cozy built-in seating area with a commissioned stained glass window. An oversized antique iron lantern illuminates the entry foyer.

7. Bay View: Catalano Architects
Setting the tone for a seaside retreat, this bright informal entryway features horizontal boards with nickel gap spacing that offer a coastal feel. Throughout the interiors of this summer home, white millwork and natural wood provide a contemporary touch.

8. Seaway: Carpenter & MacNeille
Befitting for a gracious Georgian-style home on Boston’s North Shore, this grand entry offers an elegant arrival with its ornate trim, soaring columns, and intricate cast-iron gate with granite stone piers and historic iron lanterns. Carpenter & MacNeille also restored the classical front portico with a custom-made door and sidelights.

9. Modern Villa: Catalano Architects
Large limestone slabs and soaring double-height ceilings imbue the foyer of this Modern Villa with immense volume and grandeur. Opening up to the Great Hall and adjacent primary gathering spaces, the entry offers a clear view to landscaped grounds and vast, rolling meadows beyond.
